We have tried to condense the century of service from the association to the faculty in a short presentation that gives an overview of our history. Although it contains only a fraction of the material in our archives, we hope it will serve to represent the years of hard work and dedication of its members. Watch the presentation.
The University of British Columbia Faculty Association was founded in 1920 to facilitate members` social and professional relationships with the university. The Faculty Association is now a registered not-for-profit corporation incorporated under the Corporations Act in British Columbia. Since 2000, we have also been a voluntarily recognized union and the sole negotiator for our more than 3,200 members under the protection and rules of British Columbia`s Industrial Relations Act. We are therefore responsible for representing all of our members in matters arising out of the collective agreement and the collective bargaining relationship with the University, including matters that constitute most of the terms and conditions of the employment relationship between a member and the University in general. As the exclusive negotiator for our members, we have a corresponding legal obligation under the Industrial Relations Code to fairly represent our members in all labour law matters.
