Alberta Sheriff Collective Agreement

In 1997, AUPE compensated for previous reductions and concluded 79 agreements for 30,000 members. In March 1998, members of the University of Alberta Hospital and Glenrose Hospital in Edmonton stopped working for six hours, enough to reach an agreement. In early 2000, Edmonton`s licensed practical nurses went on strike for two days and reached a major settlement. Other successes followed, and although aupe was suspended with fines and fees for its actions to defend its members, its financial situation began to improve. The agreement, ratified by 91% of AUPE members who voted, offers employees a 1.25% pay rise on January 1, 2023 and a 1.5% increase on September 1, 2023. Workers could receive an additional 0.5% increase on the last day, depending on economic factors. The collective agreement has expired and is being renegotiated by the Government of Alberta and the Alberta Provincial Employees Union. Therefore, printed copies of the agreement are not currently distributed. This agreement applies only to employees of the Department of Justice and the Solicitor General`s Correctional Services Division assigned to a 6/3 shift rotation. Smith said he did not expect the two sides to reach an agreement and that the union was prepared for a possible strike or lockout after such a lengthy and controversial bargaining process.

He said the government had changed its tone as the deal approached. However, the resolutions of the congress still had to be approved by the government, as the union operated under the Companies Act. This changed on November 17, 1977, when the AUPE met to change its status to a union without legal capacity. All aspects of the CSA were transferred to the new union. The Public Service Employee Relations Act (PSLRA) received Royal Assent on May 18, 1977, and gave the AUPE bargaining rights for each group of workers for which it had a collective agreement. These agreements were ratified at the union`s second convention at the Palliser Hotel in Calgary. The parties will start negotiations on 15 January 2019 with a view to reaching an agreement on the system for reopening wages. This Agreement applies only to Traffic Enforcement Officers, Officers of the Sheriff`s Investigations Support Unit, and the Department of Justice and Solicitor General Warrant Arrest Team of the Public Safety Division assigned to the 9.25-hour shift rotation. As of 2014, AUPE has 33 sites and manages more than 120 separate collective agreements. The union employs more than 100 people at its head office in Edmonton and in several regional offices in communities across the province of Alberta, including Peace River, Grande Prairie, Athabasca, Camrose, Red Deer, Calgary and Lethbridge. Historical milestones for the CSA include: pensions in 1923. Group life insurance in 1934.

Control of contributions 1947. Mileage rate in 1948. A 40-hour week in 1955. Four weeks of vacation after 24 years in 1956. A classification complaint procedure in 1957. The first ASC agreement with a board of directors in 1958 – for Branch 23 of the University of Alberta Hospital. Half of the medical premiums paid by the employer in 1967. New legislation that recognized the CSA in 1968 as the sole bargaining partner for Crown employees as well as for certain boards and agencies. This agreement applies only to sheriffs from the Department of Justice and the Solicitor General, the Department of Public Safety, the Field Operations and Protection Services Division of the Provincial Parliament who are assigned to the 12-hour shift rotation. Smith said he believes this latest deal with the administration would have an impact on those other negotiating tables. 15 ARTICLE XII: BUSINESS DAY/WORK WEEK/OVERTIME Section 12.1: The normal work week consists of forty (40) hours per week for full-time employees of the Sheriff`s Department.
